Botanical description of the lime tree

The lime tree is a wild and ornamental tree approximately 15 to 30 m high, with deciduous leaves whose flowers are light yellow in color. A tree very present in Europe and Asia Minor, it grows wild in varied spaces such as forests or fields but also in gardens.

The inside of the leaves is covered with a fine down, along the veins. It seems that lime trees can live up to four hundred years.

Overall, we find the lime tree throughout the ages in preparations based on its flowers or its bark. They are cooked, crushed or mixed with culinary preparations, infused in water or put in bags to diffuse its essence. Linden has always been used for its sedative and calming properties.

It seems that the best-known form remains herbal tea, made from dried flowers and leaves. It has been used since the XNUMXth century. During the Second World War, dried lime leaves were sifted into flour, appreciated for its nutritional qualities and its protein content. In this regard, there is an industrial production of flowers in France, intended for phytotherapy and marketed in various forms (infusions, dilutions, capsules and much more…).
